Paver and natural stone patios built on a solid base — designed for the way you actually use your yard.
A patio isn't just a slab of material on the ground — it's the foundation of how you spend time outside. Whether you want a simple space for a grill and table or a full multi-level outdoor room, what matters is the base underneath it and the craftsmanship on top.
We build patios using concrete pavers, flagstone, and natural stone for homeowners throughout the Roanoke Valley. Every installation starts with excavation, proper base preparation, and compaction before a single paver is placed. That's the work you never see, and it's the reason our patios stay level and drain correctly for years.
From small backyard patios to large outdoor living areas, here's the range of patio work we handle.
Full patio installations using interlocking concrete pavers. We handle layout, excavation, base prep, edging, paver placement, and joint sand — start to finish.
Irregular flagstone, bluestone, and other natural stone set on a compacted aggregate base or mortared in place. A more organic look that suits natural settings.
Tiered patio designs that work with sloped yards. Multiple elevations connected by steps, with retaining walls or seat walls defining each level.
Adding onto an existing patio, replacing settled or damaged sections, relaying shifted pavers, and correcting drainage issues that developed over time.
A good patio is built from the ground up. Here's the sequence we follow on every project.
We walk your property, discuss how you want to use the space, review material options, and take measurements. You get a clear scope and estimate before we start.
We excavate to the correct depth, install geotextile fabric where needed, place and compact multiple lifts of aggregate base, and verify grade for proper drainage away from your home.
Bedding sand is screeded level, pavers are laid to pattern, edges are restrained, and polymeric sand is swept and activated to lock the joints.
Borders are backfilled, any adjacent landscaping is restored, and the entire site is cleaned up. You walk the finished patio with us before we leave.
Patios & Outdoor Living is one part of our hardscape work. These related services often go hand-in-hand.
Segmental block walls, natural stone and boulder walls, engineered tall walls, and decorative garden and seat walls.
Paver walkways, flagstone paths, stone and paver steps, stone veneer, and boulder placement.
Built-in fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor kitchen foundations, and pergola and pavilion footings.
Most paver patio installations take 3–7 days depending on size, complexity, and site conditions. A straightforward 300-square-foot patio on flat ground can be done in a few days. Multi-level designs or projects that need significant excavation and grading take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the estimate.
Concrete pavers are manufactured to uniform dimensions, which makes them easier to install and more affordable for large areas. Natural stone like flagstone or bluestone has an organic, one-of-a-kind look but costs more and requires more labor to fit. Both hold up well in the Roanoke climate when installed on a proper base.
Minimal. Pavers don't crack the way poured concrete does, and individual units can be replaced if damaged. We recommend occasional sweeping, rinsing, and re-sanding the joints every few years. Sealing is optional but can enhance color and resist staining.
Yes. Sloped yards are common across the Roanoke Valley and we work with them regularly. We can terrace the space into multiple levels, integrate retaining walls, or build up the low side with compacted base material. The key is proper drainage planning so water moves away from the patio and your home's foundation.
Patio costs vary based on size, materials, site conditions, and design features like seat walls or steps. Rather than quoting a generic per-square-foot number, we prefer to walk your property and give you an accurate estimate based on exactly what's involved. There's no charge for the site visit.
